this work is a good fit for men and couples who want to take responsibility for themselves and their relationships — and who are willing to practice new ways of showing up. it may not be the right fit if you’re looking for quick fixes, someone who stays neutral, or purely insight-based conversation without application. fit matters. if it becomes clear that i’m not the right guide for you, i’ll say so — and help you think about next steps.
therapy and coaching can overlap, but they are not the same. therapy often focuses on diagnosis, symptom reduction, and treatment of mental health conditions. coaching is more future-oriented and skills-based, with an emphasis on responsibility, practice, and real-world change. my work is informed by clinical training, but oriented toward coaching and mentorship. we focus on patterns, relational dynamics, and how you show up — then practice new responses in real time. this is active, engaged work — not just talking about insight, but applying it.
i don’t work directly with insurance companies.
insurance requires a diagnosis and places limits on how care is delivered. working outside of insurance allows me to tailor the work to you — not to a diagnosis or treatment code. it also allows for more flexibility, honesty, and responsiveness in the work itself. in my experience, this freedom makes a significant and meaningful difference.
sessions are typically 45–50 minutes. we focus on what’s currently happening in your life or relationships, identify patterns, and work with practical tools and perspectives to support change. sessions usually end with a clear takeaway or practice to carry forward. this is collaborative work. you’re not a passive recipient — you’re an active participant.
most clients meet every other week, especially at the beginning. frequency can shift depending on your goals, capacity, and what’s happening in your life. we’ll decide that together.
there’s no fixed number. many people experience meaningful movement within 8–12 sessions, though some choose to work longer for deeper or ongoing support. the length of the work depends on your goals and the complexity of what you’re addressing. we’ll revisit this along the way.
whenever possible, i schedule sessions on the same day of the week and at the same time. this creates consistency, reduces back-and-forth, and helps the work settle into a steady rhythm. if changes are needed from time to time, we can talk about that — but the goal is to make scheduling simple and predictable, not another source of stress.
both. i offer virtual sessions for convenience, and in-person sessions if you’re local to the madison area. my office is located in sun prairie, wisconsin.
payment is handled electronically on the day of service. accepted methods include credit or debit card (including hsa), processed through a secure platform. other options may be available upon request.
yes. while this work is coaching-based, i maintain the same standards of privacy and care you’d expect in a clinical setting. communication and documentation are handled through a hipaa-compliant platform. the only exception is if there is an immediate concern about harm to yourself or others.
