shift your focus: small changes that grow big connection
here’s the first post in my march unmaddness newsletter series i shared eailer this year — a collection of simple weekly strategies to help you bring more ease, connection, and clarity to your life and relationships.
this week’s strategy is a simple but powerful truth:
what you give your attention to, grows.
whether you’re navigating relationship struggles, career stress, or inner self-talk, where you place your focus can dramatically shape your experience.
the problem: attention gravitates to what’s wrong
our brains are wired to scan for problems — what’s broken, missing, or off.
but when we constantly focus on what’s not working, that’s all we begin to see.
the shift: choose to notice what’s good
if instead, you redirect your attention to what is working — what feels good, meaningful, or appreciated — you’ll start noticing more of it.
it’s not about pretending everything’s perfect.
it’s about intentionally watering what you want to grow.
the grass is greener where you water it.
the practice: one simple act, every day
here’s a simple weekly practice to help you shift your focus:
- pick one area in your life or relationship that feels stuck.
- each day this week, write down one thing going well in that area.
- track how your experience begins to shift.
maybe it’s a small gesture your partner made.
a moment of calm in your day.
or just the fact that you showed up and noticed.
this isn’t bypassing the hard stuff.
it’s rebalancing your attention to include the good that’s already there.

closing reflection:
what will you water this week?
small shifts create ripples.
stay tuned for next week’s simple strategy.
with care,
